The Seaside
For those who feel no holiday is complete without getting sand in their navel, the Tuscan beaches are really something else and not far from Vercenni.
Castello Dell Pescaia
Almost out of a Fellini movie, the beaches that surround this little hill town are covered in blue and white sun loungers, while the quite excellent restaurants that lead onto the beach serve a wonderful selection of fresh fish dishes to die for.
La Steroaia
Backing onto the nature reserve of Maremma between Piombino and Follonica is this marvellous beach where there is very little apart from dunes and sand, so take a packed lunch and plenty of bottled water.
Elba
Just a few hours car journey and a two-hour ferry away from Vercenni, the island of Elba comprises hundreds of small and beautiful beaches that make up its 150 km of coastline. The ferries leave every half hour in peak season and it's best to find a hotel and stay a few days.
